In today's video I'll be taking a look at a compact NAS device, offering maximum OS freedom, meaning we're not tied to a proprietary operating system but can install any OS of our choice — be it TrueNAS, OpenMediaVault, Unraid, Windows, and any more. Windows 11 Pro comes pre-installed actually, but during this video I'll be replacing it and will install OMV (OpenMediaVault) instead and configure it to my liking.
This is the ACEMAGIC N3A NAS, which is essentially a Mini PC and can be used as such, if needed.
The N3A offers two 2.5GbE ports and plenty of other connectivity, so even I myself can use this NAS for my video production needs, etc. The NAS, in theory, offers a maximum capacity of 136TB. However, there are a few things to consider and watch out for, as I unfortunately discovered during configuration. More on that in a moment.
The N3A can be purchased as a barebones solution without RAM and SSD, or, as in my case, with a pre-installed 128GB SSD and 8GB of RAM.
Is the N3A really as good and flexible as advertised at the end of the day?
