Divided across an estimated 200,000 eligible farmers — representing around 100 million acres — that comes out to just 79 cents per acre for eight years of restricted repair access. On an average 500-acre farm, a farmer might receive around $395 total.
Willie's verdict? This is a loss, not a win. The settlement offers money, but what farmers really need is injunctive relief — a legally binding change to how John Deere operates. Without that, the check is just a way to make the lawsuit disappear without changing anything.
So what happens next? The settlement still requires a judge's preliminary review and a public fairness hearing before it can be finalized. Willie believes the terms will be challenged and potentially modified. He also urges farmers to look at their own John Deere dealer invoices carefully — because the settlement's payment formula is based on technician labor hours, information that rarely appears on a standard invoice.
