After 12 years out of the CNH family dealership world, I dug an old New Holland shirt out of the closet for a reason — because something BIG just happened inside CNH that has the entire farm equipment industry buzzing. They call it the "purpling" of CNH, and if you own a Case or New Holland tractor, hay tool, or combine, this may affect you.
What Is the "Purpling" of CNH?
When you mix blue (New Holland) and red (Case), you get purple. As of around June 1st, CNH — the Italian-owned parent company behind both Case IH and New Holland Agriculture — has officially consolidated their two separate sales forces into one unified organization. One rep now calls on both brands. One team now oversees dealer development for both Case and New Holland dealers across the country.
This is a massive structural shift that's been quietly building for years.
A Quick History of CNH
1999 — Case and New Holland merge under CNH after a series of mergers and acquisitions involving Ford, Fiat, Case, International Harvester, Versatile, Steiger, and more
2022 — CNH combines parts and service rep roles across both brands
2025 — Marketing organizations for Case and New Holland are unified
2026 — Sales parts and service forces officially merged into one organization
Despite 25+ years under the same corporate umbrella, Case and New Holland dealers have been competitors — and so have the sales reps for both companies, calling on the same customers, fighting for the same deals, often staying in the same hotels while burning two tanks of gas on dealer visi. That era just ended.
What This Means for Dealers
One territory rep now covers both Case and New Holland dealer locations
One parts specialist and one service/warranty specialist will serve both brands
Dealers in areas with weak competing-brand coverage may now be able to cross-franchise and carry both lines
The dealer-vs-dealer price game between CNH's own brands is essentially over
What This Means for You as a Customer
If you've been playing Case dealers against New Holland dealers to get the best price — that strategy is gone. The same rep, the same programs, and the same transactional discount tools now serve both sides of the fence.
On the flip side, customers in underserved areas may now get better parts availability and service support as dealers pick up the neighboring brand's franchise.
Why Now? Why Mid-Season?
The timing is unusual. Most changes like this happen at the start of the fiscal or calendar year — not in the middle of hay season. But with the farm economy tightening, larger operations buying out smaller ones, and dealer traffic down, CNH likely decided there's no perfect time — and mid-season actually generates less pushback from a dealer organization too busy to fight it.
Is This Just the Beginning?
That's the big question. Combining marketing, parts & service, and now the sales force strongly suggests the two dealer networks could eventually be merged into a single brand. A CNH stockholder meeting a year ago reportedly hinted that further consolidation isn't off the table.
Overlapping dealer territories — areas with both a strong Case dealer and a strong New Holland dealer — will be the most complicated to unwind. But in markets with a dominant dealer and a weak one, expect the dominant player to eventually represent both colors.
