A new report from the New York Times describes a Democratic National
Committee in financial crisis heading into the 2026 midterms. The DNC is carrying $2 million in debt while the Republican National Committee
reports $128.5 million on hand, and Trump-aligned outside groups control a super PAC with roughly $400 million. According to the Times, DNC leadership has asked vendors to hold off on sending invoices until after the midterm elections — a cash flow tactic the report characterizes as an effort to mask how bad the balance sheet has gotten.
The party is also still carrying debt tied to the roughly $1 billion
spent on Kamala Harris's 2024 campaign, and Ken Martin has drawn
criticism over spending decisions including $7.3 million for the Harris
campaign's voter list and $840,000 in territories with no congressional
representation.
