**Synopsis:**
More than 70 years after the end of World War II, a deadly legacy remains hidden beneath the world's oceans. Thousands of sunken warships, tankers and cargo vessels are slowly deteriorating, potentially releasing enormous quantities of toxic fuel into marine ecosystems.
In the Baltic Sea, Polish marine researcher Benedykt Hac investigates the wreck of the German hospital ship *Stuttgart*, sunk in 1943 near Gdańsk. Decades later, its leaking fuel has contaminated vast areas of the seabed, creating a growing ecological threat just kilometers from popular beaches.
Across the Atlantic, American scientists uncover the scale of the problem. More than 6,000 World War II wrecks lie scattered across the world's oceans, many still containing dangerous quantities of oil. As their steel hulls corrode, the risk of catastrophic leaks increases.
Meanwhile, researchers in Norway discover that some German wartime fuels are far more toxic than previously believed. Their findings raise urgent questions about the long-term consequences of synthetic fuels produced during the war.
From the Baltic Sea to the Atlantic and the Norwegian fjords, this investigative documentary follows marine scientists, underwater researchers and salvage specialists as they confront an environmental crisis that governments have largely overlooked.
Who is responsible for these forgotten wrecks? Can their dangerous cargo be removed before it is too late? And how much longer can the world's oceans withstand the toxic legacy of World War II?
