Synopsis:
How do wild animals protect their babies in a world where danger is everywhere? From the moment they are born, young animals must overcome predators, harsh weather, hunger and countless threats to survive their first days, weeks and months.
Nature's Nurseries takes viewers on an extraordinary journey into the hidden world of animal families, revealing the remarkable instincts and survival strategies that help wildlife raise the next generation.
Deep in Europe's forests, a protective wild boar mother keeps her newborn piglets safe, while a red fox struggles to feed seven hungry cubs. Beneath open fields, European hamsters shelter their young in underground burrows, carefully avoiding predators that patrol the surface.
But not every animal raises its offspring in the same way.
Some species invest enormous effort in protecting just a few babies. Others produce hundreds or even thousands of offspring, leaving survival to chance. Discover how male bullhead fish fiercely defend their eggs, hornets care for their developing larvae and tiny harvest mice build intricate nests hidden among the reeds.
In the wetlands, an unsuspecting pair of warblers struggles to feed a demanding cuckoo chick that has taken over their nest. Nearby, marsh harriers, little bitterns and other birds work tirelessly to protect and nourish their own young.
The documentary also explores the remarkable lives of baby pike, fire salamanders, eagle owls, golden eagles and black storks, revealing how different environments shape the challenges faced by newborn animals.
Meanwhile, young lynxes learn essential hunting skills under their mother's watchful eye, and European bison calves find safety within their herds.
Why do some animals have only one baby while others produce thousands? Why do certain parents fiercely defend their offspring while others abandon them immediately after birth? And how does the struggle between predators and prey maintain the delicate balance of nature?
Through intimate wildlife footage, fascinating animal behavior and extraordinary encounters with Europe's diverse species, Nature's Nurseries reveals one of the natural world's most important stories: the struggle to give new life a chance.
A captivating wildlife documentary about animal babies, motherhood, survival instincts, reproduction and the extraordinary circle of life.
