Synopsis:
Hidden high above the forest floor, gibbons live extraordinary lives that few humans ever witness.
With their remarkably long arms, breathtaking agility, and powerful voices that echo through the rainforest, these small apes are among the most fascinating primates on Earth. Yet despite their intelligence, complex social relationships, and close evolutionary connection to humans, they remain largely forgotten.
Gibbons: The Forgotten Apes takes viewers into the tropical forests of Asia to explore the remarkable world of these endangered animals.
Through rare wildlife footage and interviews with researchers and conservationists, the documentary reveals how gibbons form close family groups, communicate through elaborate songs, care for their young, and travel effortlessly through the treetops.
But their world is disappearing.
Across Southeast Asia, vast areas of tropical rainforest have been cleared for timber, palm oil plantations, agriculture, and commercial development. As their natural habitat shrinks, gibbons face increasing threats from illegal hunting, wildlife trafficking, and the destruction of the ecosystems on which they depend.
The film also examines the difficult challenges of protecting endangered primates, from wildlife rescue and rehabilitation to anti-poaching patrols, forest conservation, and the protection of national parks.
Can these extraordinary apes survive the destruction of their natural world?
An intimate and urgent wildlife documentary about the beauty of nature, the consequences of deforestation, and the fight to save one of the world's most remarkable groups of primates.
