✍ Deep within the misty valleys of the Knuckles Mountain Range (Dumbara Kanduvetiya), we went on a journey to find a living legend. Meet Mahathun, a 50-year-old man who has spent the last 15 years living in absolute isolation inside an abandoned jungle lodge known as K.M.P.
Originally coming to the forest to manage a cardamom plantation, Mahathun chose to stay behind even after the plantation was stopped. Why? Because he fell in love with the pure, untamed wild. With no vehicle smoke, no artificial noises, crystal-clear natural spring water, and wild fruits untouched by chemicals, he found his paradise in total solitude.
The next morning we pushed our limits to hike Thunhisgala Mountain- the 6th highest peak in the Knuckles range. It’s a grueling 3km trek from the lodge, but the reward at the top is a mind-blowing, 360-degree panoramic view above the clouds.
