Step inside the only home Alexander Hamilton ever owned. Completed in 1802 and designed by architect John McComb Jr. — and now operated by the National Park Service — Hamilton Grange National Museum offers a glimpse into the life Hamilton built beyond the political stage, as well as a rare look at early NYC history.
Throughout the home — which is located within St. Nicholas Park in the Hamilton Heights neighborhood — sunlight pours through tall windows, restored Federal-style rooms showcase period furnishings and personal artifacts, and beautifully preserved architectural details adorn the space. What is now surrounded by city streets once stood in the quiet countryside above Manhattan, with sweeping views of the Hudson River and open farmland. Moreover, not only does this home serve as tribute to its original owner’s numerous accomplishments as a founding figure in U.S. history, but also as a reminder of how much New York City has changed over the last two centuries since Hamilton walked its halls.
