Inside a Brooklyn Heights Apartment that Feels Like a Woodland Cabin in the Clouds

Description

In this Open House tour: Furniture designer and sculptor Gregory Beson opens the doors to his Brooklyn Heights apartment, a space he describes as a “cabin in the woods in the clouds,” that he shares with his adorable dog Bear.

The apartment reflects his approach to making, with exposed brick, wood beams, oak floors, and lime wash walls forming a quiet backdrop for his own work alongside pieces from designers, lighting makers, and close friends. Natural materials are implemented in every room, helping to inspire a more relaxing and welcoming atmosphere. By the window, a walnut slab from Pennsylvania serves as a small café table, paired with his Quinn stools. In the bedroom, a cherry slab becomes the bed, the first he ever designed for himself. Lighting is carefully placed throughout, from a compact pendant in the kitchen to a vintage French fixture, each chosen to work with the apartment’s natural light. Meanwhile, a Ward Bennett settee sits beneath a custom two tone mirror, while a teak coffee table brings the main living area together.

From there, Gregory heads to the ferry, his preferred commute between Brooklyn Heights and his studio. The apartment serves as a destination for rest and ideation, while the workshop below is where ideas take form through direct manual craftsmanship. Overall, this cozy abode and studio reflect a practice that is rooted in material, skill, and thoughtful vcreativity.
