One person dumped over 30 tires on private farmland. Then they came back and left their couches in the exact same spot.
They didn't even bother to find somewhere new.
That kind of behaviour doesn't happen when people fear consequences. It happens when people know that nothing is going to happen to them. No shame, no hesitation, just a farmer's land treated like a free dump with the door left wide open to come back again.
This is exactly why other premiers need to be more like Danielle Smith. Alberta is proposing fines of up to $1 million and jail time for illegal dumping, while most of the country has done little to address a problem that keeps getting worse. Landowners are left paying for cleanup on land they never made a mess of.
This issue has gone too far, and if we keep ignoring it, the country we leave our children won't be the same one we grew up in.
This is about respect for private property, accountability, and leaders who need to act before this becomes the norm.
At some point, we have to decide whether this is the country we're okay with leaving behind.
