SLIDE 1 — WHO IS ANDREA JOHNSON
Andrea Johnson heads the IDAC, appointed by President Ramaphosa in March 2022. She brings over 26 years of prosecutorial experience, having served at the Scorpions, Organised Crime and the PCLU. She was even shortlisted to lead the NPA in 2025. But now she faces serious allegations before a commission chaired by Justice Madlanga.
SLIDE 2 — ALLEGATIONS AGAINST JOHNSON
Johnson is accused of leaking a confidential docket to Feroz Khan. The docket related to a 2018 assault complaint and contained a statement, J88 form and audio recording. It was allegedly shared just one day before the Hawks could interview Khan. The fear is that Khan could then tailor his version of events. Justice Madlanga has called the conduct "impropriety".
SLIDE 3 — COMMISSION DRAMA & CURRENT STATUS
On 10 July, a Hawks colonel testified against Johnson. But three days later, she was rushed to hospital before she could testify. Madlanga dismissed her medical certificate as "useless". Her health emergency remains undisclosed. The commission has been postponed. Minister Kubayi insists the IDAC must stay credible, heaping more pressure on Johnson.
