Linear chord tone bass note movement applies a bass-line to create a smooth, step-wise scalar line.
These riffs do this by selecting specific chord tones (root, 3rd, 5th) as a way to connect, rather than jump between the lowest possible note of a riff. Once composed, these riffs emphasize melodic flow in the bass, and utilize inversions to link chords smoothly.
In this lesson I will show how linear chord tone bass movement is made by using inverted chords. Examples from the key of “G” are used to demonstrate the step-wise note method for composing a step-wise bass-line along the low 6th string.
