I repurposed the trellis and started weaving the sweet potato vines through it #trellis

Description

Remember when I bought this galvanized trellis from Home Depot for my squash? Well, my squash was still too small to need it, but my sweet potatoes had completely different plans! After a few good rains, the vines took off and quickly outgrew the stakes I was using.

Instead of buying something else, I repurposed the trellis and started weaving the vines through it. Sweet potato vines naturally wrap themselves around the wire, so there’s no need for clips or ties.

I also added mulch to help the soil retain moisture, regulate soil temperature, and keep the growing conditions more consistent inside my fabric grow bags.

Fun fact: Sweet potato leaves are edible and can be enjoyed in salads or cooked dishes. Since this is my first year growing sweet potatoes, I’m choosing to leave the leaves on the plant so I can focus on growing a healthy harvest underground.

Cheers to learning, growing, and enjoying the journey 💚
