Description
This video is a little different from my usual mudlarking uploads, but in many ways it feels deeply connected.
Normally, I find lost stories in the Thames mud. This time, I found one in a flea market box.
Inside were photographs, letters, diaries and reel-to-reel recordings — including the voice of Anne Moreton, a woman born in Victorian times. The recordings were made by her son, Michael Moreton, in 1970, as she remembered her childhood, family history and life connected with Burma.
I found the archive incredibly moving. It felt as though these voices, photographs and memories had somehow survived, waiting to be heard again.
This is the first video in what may become a small series, as there is much more material still to explore. I have treated the archive with great care and respect, and I hope you find Anne’s memories as fascinating and touching as I did.
If anyone watching is connected to the Moreton family, or recognises any of the people, places or voices in this video, I would be absolutely delighted to hear from you.
Thank you so much for watching.
Nicola
