Colin Gonsalves is a prominent Indian human rights lawyer and the founder of the Human Rights Law Network (HRLN). He is a Senior Advocate at the Supreme Court of India and has played a major role in advancing public interest litigation (PIL) in the country. Gonsalves is known for using constitutional and international law to protect the rights of marginalized groups—including workers, women, children, Dalits, Adivasis, and prisoners. Over the years, he has argued several landmark cases related to right to food, housing, health, and education. In recognition of his work, he received the Right Livelihood Award (2017), often called the “Alternative Nobel Prize.”
