Description
There are two quite different things people call a "hip carrier", and it's worth knowing which is which before you buy one. In this video I cover the hip sling, the hip seat, and how a hip carrier compares to using a ring sling on the hip.
🎓 This video is part of my free course, Your Babywearing Basics. It walks you through every carrier type so you can understand your options properly → https://www.babywearingtraining.com/courses/your-babywearing-basics/
After watching, you'll know the difference between a hip sling and a hip seat, why this carrier type is so good for quick errands, and why it's not the one to reach for on a long day out.
✅ Safety check, every time:
- Close enough to kiss (baby high on your chest)
- Chin off the chest, room to breathe
- Face always in view
- Knees higher than the bum, back supported
Worth knowing: a hip carrier is asymmetrical, all the weight on one side, which makes it brilliant for quick up-and-down carries but less comfortable over longer periods than a two-shoulder carrier. Think quick supermarket trip rather than a long walk. If you already have a ring sling, you'll notice the similarity: a hip carrier does something similar but without the rings, which makes it a bit quicker and less bulky to use.
