Forging a Bottom Swage for the Power Hammer

Niels Provos Guide 5 years ago

Description

In a return to simple blacksmithing projects, I am forging a bottom swage to be used on the power hammer. Anyone who is familiar with blacksmithing - from beginner blacksmith to experienced blacksmith - the work is about forging tools to forge other objects. In this case, my blacksmith forge, anvil and myself, will forge the bottom swage to then forge a flatter for the power hammer which you will see that in my next video.

I plan on using the flatter when forging axes which I hope to make a few videos about. In the meantime, forging this bottom swage will reveal some interesting mistakes I made which you may be able to learn from.

Inspired by the excellent videos from Torbjörn Åhman.
