Durango & Silverton - 473 to the Rescue!

SteamTrainVideos.com Short 4 months ago

Description

On Saturday February 21st 2026, K-36 #480 was assigned to pull the Cascade Canyon Express on the Durango & Silverton. Unable to make steam because of a clogged fuel line, the locomotive made it as far as Pinkerton Siding on Hermosa Hill. K-28 #473 has left earlier in the morning pulling a flanger extra to clear snow from the tracks. With #480 unable to proceed, #473 quickly returned to Rockwood, turned on the wye, and backed down to Pinkerton. With an over-tonnage 12-car train, the smaller K-28 2-8-2 put on a spectacular show lugging the train up the 2.5% grade to Rockwood.

This short video will be part of a full length DVD/Blu-ray/Streaming production available later this year, focusing mainly on the Rio Grande Southern 20 trips during February 2026.
