I started driving down south to catch Big Boy this weekend, so I thought I would share my crossing over the Mackinac bridge this evening. Friday I'll be at Fostaria, OH at the railpark for a few hours in the morning after 9.
00:00 – Starting the road trip; encountering construction and butterflies in the field.
00:50 – Crossing from Dickinson County into Menominee County.
01:02 – Update: Eight more hours until reaching Ohio.
01:13 – Approaching the Mackinac Bridge and seeing a ship underneath.
02:05 – Beginning the drive across the Mackinac Bridge.
03:19 – Stopping at the toll booth (cost: $4).
03:47 – Explaining the bridge's "Drivers Assistance Program" for those uncomfortable driving across.
04:23 – Discussing speed limits (45 mph for cars, 20 mph for semis).
05:22 – Crossing the metal grates in the center lane and feeling the tires "track."
06:31 – Reaching the middle of the bridge (and the "sweaty palms" moment!).
07:01 – Completing the first three hours of the journey.
07:38 – Discussing the plan to visit Fostoria, Ohio, before heading to Pennsylvania.
08:25 – Spotting the ferry heading to Mackinac Island while staying focused on the road.
09:17 – Safely across the bridge and continuing the trip downstate.
