In the deep country parts of Jamaica, long before streetlights touched the hills, parents would warn their children about the Black Heart Man.
They said he wandered the lonely footpaths at dusk, dressed in dark rags, his face hidden beneath a wide, battered hat. No one ever saw his eyes — only the shadow where they should be. He moved without sound, appearing near breadfruit trees and abandoned cane fields, especially when children strayed too far from home.
