"We do not think a nuclear apocalypse would be all that bad." El Aviador Dro y sus Obreros Especializados: "Nuclear Si", "Selector de Frecuencias", "Programa en Espiral", and "Baila la Guerra". All of Aviador Dro's song names project a certain concept. Machines and movement: Scientific Anarchy. A Spanish punk band that is more like a hazmat suited version of DEVO from Spain. Ominous, outlandish, and, sadly, often forgotten outside the Hispanosphere. Aviador Dro has touched everything from music, to boardgames, to computers. The band was even indirectly responsible for the Spanish golden age of software. Their expansive history is one long "Opera Científica" of an obtuse ideology.
Aviador Dro's thesis: humanity must be liquidated. The coming age is the age of the robot, the mutant, the cyborg. Their music and image is propaganda for a future of the 1980s. That future never came to pass, the would never ended, but Aviador Dro never left. Antagonistic and ironic. Aviador Dro are a strange sort of invaders armed with music, outfits, and even pamphlets. Nuclear paranoia and Futurist madness elevated to disco dance tracks. Aviador Dro dominated the public outage and the clubs of Madrid throughout the 1980s. Though time has not spared the group (always unto the future!), their style has evolved from one of the original electronic acts of Spain to encompass punk, rock, pop, ambient, industrial, trance, and even synthwave in the recent decade. Their sincere, silly, and verbose nature continues even after fifty years on the stage.
So will the robotic, mutant revolution of Aviador Dro ever come to pass?
