Cyclone Arnab Weakens After Landfall, Heavy Rain Threat Continues in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha

Severe Cyclonic Storm Arnab weakened after crossing the Andhra Pradesh and Yanam coasts, bringing extremely heavy rainfall and strong winds to coastal districts. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the system was centred near latitude 16.9°N and longitude 81.8°E at 4:30 pm on Wednesday, with winds of 85–95 kmph and gusts up to 105 kmph.

Arnab is expected to move north-northwestwards and weaken into a cyclonic storm, followed by a deep depression. Andhra Pradesh recorded extremely heavy rainfall, with Garividi receiving 26 cm, while Anakapalle, Srungavarapukota, Vepada and Cheepurupalle recorded 25 cm each. Odisha’s Mahendragarh also received 25 cm.

The IMD warned of storm-surge inundation in low-lying coastal areas and moderate-to-high flash-flood risks across parts of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Telangana and Chhattisgarh. Residents have been advised to remain cautious as waterlogging and flooding may continue.
