That's what happened to a family in Baytown, Texas, after someone called police with a completely fabricated report that a man had shot his wife and barricaded himself inside.

According to the reporting, three heavily armed officers arrived at the home, and one repeatedly tried to kick in the front door.
Meanwhile, the homeowner's wife ran upstairs to retrieve a firearm.

Police believe they're responding to a violent shooting involving an armed suspect. And both sides could be armed.
What makes this story even more disturbing is that the officer reportedly believed he was speaking directly with the subject of the emergency call.
But he was communicating with the person who made the false report.
