Dr. Adam Hamawy, a plastic surgeon and Army veteran, won a crowded NJ-12 Democratic primary with endorsements from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Bernie Sanders, and other members of the Squad. But the record raises questions his campaign hasn't fully answered. Court documents show Hamawy served as a defense witness at Abdel-Rahman's 1995 terrorism trial, and a 1995 New York Times report described him as a supporter of the cleric — who was convicted of seditious conspiracy and linked to the plot behind the World Trade Center bombing. Under oath, Hamawy acknowledged that Abdel-Rahman spoke about jihad, which sits uncomfortably alongside what he's telling voters now.
