In Absolute Batman #21, the Robins confrontation from issue 20 finally pays off — and Bruce goes medieval on them, turning his cape into a mace and his ax into a nightmare. We get our first real look at Absolute Two-Face and Absolute Penguin in action as Gotham's villains gather for Jim Gordon's heartbreaking funeral, each of them sliding closer to who they're destined to become. And then the moment 21 issues have been building toward: Jack Grimm, the Absolute Joker, walks out onto a steel beam and introduces himself to Bruce. He catches Bruce's punch out of midair like it's nothing, tells him "I'm the man who made you," and delivers a line that reframes the entire series — "Batman isn't yours to end. He's mine."
By the final page, with Absolute Clayface forming Batman's image back at Arkham, it's clear Snyder is just getting started. This is one of the most important issues of the entire run — and a genuine key.
