Woodturning - The New Year's Eve Gonk

Description

Happy New Year, everyone! Following on from the snowman project, I wanted to create something special to ring in 2026. Today, I’m turning a "Midnight Countdown" Gonk. This piece is a mix of rustic natural wood and high-end luxury finishes, making it the perfect centerpiece for the turn of the year.

The body is turned from a beautiful piece of Corkscrew Hazel, chosen for its unique grain. For the "hat" I used a piece of walnut and I wanted to capture the magic of the midnight countdown. I used a CNC to engrave a custom clock face onto an old coin.

To give it that New Year's Eve "glitz," I decorated the hat and buttons with Preciosa crystals. These provide an incredible fire and brilliance that really brings the piece to life under the lights.

Materials Used:
Wood: Corkscrew Hazel (Body)
Metal: CNC-Engraved Coin (Clock Face) & Pewter-style accent rim
Embellishments: Preciosa Crystals (Flatback)
