Can a 3D printer and a kiln help turn a raw log into a functional coffee mug?
In this video, I’m pushing the boundaries of the workshop by combining three very different crafts: traditional woodturning, 3D printing, and ceramic slip casting. I start with a stunning piece of raw timber on the lathe, but instead of a standard hollow-out, I’ve engineered a custom ceramic insert.
The process takes us from the wood lathe to the Bambu Lab H2C, and finally to the kiln to fire the insert that makes this mug truly "hybrid." It’s been a massive learning curve, but the final result—a blend of organic burl and sleek ceramic—is one of my favourite builds to date.
