Description
Washington is an at-fault state.
A lot of drivers believe otherwise, and it changes how the whole thing works.
Personal Injury Protection — PIP — is coverage insurers in Washington are required to offer you. But you're allowed to reject it in writing, and plenty of people have without really registering that they did. So step one is finding out whether you actually have it. If you do, it covers medical costs after a collision no matter who caused it.
Two insurers, two very different conversations. Tell your own insurer promptly — your policy almost certainly requires it, and opening that claim is the only route to your PIP. With the other driver's insurer, take more care: you're not obliged to give a recorded statement before you've been examined. If you're unsure, that's an attorney question, not a chiropractor question.
Bring your policy or your declarations page and we'll help you work out what you've got.
