If you thought console gaming was meant to be the affordable alternative to building a high end gaming PC, the latest industry leaks are about to give you a massive reality check. Early price rumours surrounding the PlayStation 6 and the next generation Xbox suggest hardware costs could reach levels we have simply never seen before in the console space.
This is not just wild speculation either, because we are already seeing the warning signs across current hardware. Sony raising the retail prices of the PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro mid generation, alongside Nintendo bumping up the Switch 2, shows that component shortages and rising silicon production costs are actively hammering console manufacturers right now.
If hardware brands are struggling to keep current systems reasonably priced, launching next generation machines with cutting edge architecture is going to carry a massive premium. Will you be willing to drop big money on a next gen console when the time comes, or will these price hikes finally push you to switch to PC gaming?
