If you are planning to ditch Windows and install SteamOS on your gaming desktop, there are three massive things you need to check first. The first big factor is your graphics card, because SteamOS runs best on AMD GPUs while NVIDIA graphics cards still suffer from ongoing driver issues and poor support on Linux platforms.
The second issue comes down to your favourite games and whether they rely on strict kernel level anti cheat software. Popular titles like Valorant, Fortnite, and Call of Duty simply will not run on SteamOS because their anti cheat systems block Linux environments outright.
Finally, you have to remember that SteamOS for general desktop PCs is technically still in beta, so you will run into occasional system bugs and setup quirks along the way. Have you already checked if your PC hardware and games library are ready for SteamOS, or are you staying on Windows for now?
