Does your puppy run away or try to bite your hands when you reach for their collar? Kayl explains why simply repeating the collar grab won't help if your puppy is afraid or resistant. She works with a new Goldendoodle puppy named Coffee to demonstrate a step-by-step method for conditioning collar grabs. First, distract the puppy with a piece of food on their nose, reach under to grab their collar, and then reward them. Next, grab the collar first, wait for them to relax, and then reward them. It's crucial to take this training slow and only progress when your puppy is entirely comfortable with each step.
