Description
The golden rule of teaching your dog to let go of an item is that the trade must be more valuable than what is currently in their mouth. If food isn't working, Kayl recommends using the two-toy trade method. Hide a second toy behind your back while playing tug, and when you want your dog to release, say "drop it" once, stop pulling, and shake the second toy to make it exciting. As soon as they let go, reward them by letting them grab the new toy. Remember to just say the command once and stay quiet while you wait for them to make the switch.
