Description
Weinsberg CaraHome 650 DG Superlight. Before buying the Weinsberg CaraHome 650 DG Superlight, watch this. On paper it looks like a smart, lightweight family motorhome — but once I compare real payload, build quality, and touring usability against similarly priced rivals, the weaknesses become obvious. If you are choosing between Weinsberg, Hobby, Adria, or Sunlight, this comparison matters.
In this video I take a critical, real-world look at the Weinsberg CaraHome 650 DG Superlight, a 6-berth alcove motorhome aimed at buyers who want maximum sleeping capacity on a 3.5-tonne chassis. Despite the “Superlight” branding, I find that once passengers, water and basic touring equipment are added, this motorhome quickly becomes compromised.
Rather than repeating brochure claims, I focus on payload reality, layout efficiency, interior quality and driving practicality, and compare the CaraHome directly with better-balanced alternatives in the same size and price range.
Vehicle Specifications – Weinsberg CaraHome 650 DG Superlight

⚠️ For a motorhome marketed at families, I consider the usable payload to be a major weakness, not a minor compromise.
Direct Comparison – Where Rivals Do Better
Versus Hobby Optima De Luxe (similar money)
Significantly higher usable payload
More modern interior materials and construction
Better insulation and winter touring capability
More efficient layouts without alcove weight
➡️ I find the Hobby far better suited to long, fully-loaded trips.
Versus Adria Coral / Matrix models
Superior weight management at 3.5 tonnes
Better kitchen and washroom ergonomics
Higher perceived build quality
Stronger all-round touring refinement
➡️ The Weinsberg feels basic by comparison.
Versus Sunlight & Knaus low-profile alternatives
Lower height improves stability and fuel efficiency
Better handling in crosswinds
More standard equipment
No unnecessary weight above the cab
➡️ The alcove design is a disadvantage here, not a benefit.
Main Problems I See
❌ Very limited real-world payload
❌ High centre of gravity from the alcove
❌ Interior finish below class expectations
❌ Heavy reliance on paid option packs
❌ Better touring motorhomes available for the same price
Who This Motorhome Makes Sense For
I only see the CaraHome 650 DG Superlight working if:
Sleeping capacity matters more than payload
Trips are short and lightly loaded
A traditional alcove layout is essential
Long-distance or winter touring is not the goal
For most buyers, low-profile competitors deliver better balance, better driving behaviour, and better value.

I live in a motorhome full time and travel around Europe in it. I spend most of my time in Poland, Germany and Italy. Vanlife is my life.
I cover equipment, including 12v electrical equipment and talk a lot about lithium batteries.
I also show some of the places I have visited in Europe in my own motorhome, as well as the places you can stay at! I try to give as much coverage as I can to official campsites and free places which I use for overnighting. Therefore you can find here the aire or stellplatz that you are possibly looking for.
