Being good at your job is the baseline you were hired for. It's not a bonus. It's the job. That's literally what you were hired and paid to do. You don't get a bonus for hitting the bar you already agreed to clear.
What actually earns more isn't doing your job well. It's doing more than what the job ever asked of you, consistently, until the market itself starts telling you that you're underpaid.
Reliable gets you kept.
Overdelivering gets you paid.
Most people are angry about a raise they never actually earned, because they never did anything beyond what the job already required.
