Description

This is a Variant of the history of the Green Machine and as far as I believe it's called the Smurf Bug..
The Green Machine developed from the Buck Bug and Bomber..
The traditional dressing
One of the most recognisable versions is the spun deer-hair Green Machine with a bright green body, brown hackle and contrasting fluorescent butt.

This Version is tyed with;
Hook Salmon wet-fly hook, sizes 6–10
Thread Fulling Mill 50 Denier black..
Tag, Small Oval Silver Tinsel
Butt Fluorescent Yellow and Red Fulling Mill floss
Body Blue-dyed deer body hair, spun and clipped
Hackle Black saddle cock hackle, palmered
Tail Yellow Krystal Flash

Why does it work so well?
Unlike the traditional Bomber, which is commonly fished on the surface, the Green Machine is frequently presented just below the surface or within the surface film.

The combination of a compact green deer-hair body, palmered hackle and fluorescent butt produces a highly distinctive silhouette.

It's especially associated with summer Atlantic salmon fishing and can be swung across the current or allowed to drift through a pool.
