In this video, I tie two versions of the ARPO Fly, a wonderfully simple but very effective CDC dry fly originating from the Italian school of fly tying.

The ARPO is credited to Italian fly tyer Angelo Rosorani and is a lovely example of how a fly can be created with very few materials while still having all the characteristics needed to tempt a feeding trout or grayling.

The beauty of this pattern lies in the use of CDC (Cul de Canard), a remarkable natural feather that provides softness, movement and excellent floating properties. The delicate fibres help create the impression of a small emerging or adult insect resting in the surface film.

In this video, I've tied two versions of the ARPO to show how this simple pattern can be approached in different ways. It's a fly that offers plenty of scope for experimenting with CDC, proportions and tying techniques.

One of the things I particularly enjoy about fly tying is discovering patterns from different countries and the ideas behind them. The Italian school has produced some wonderful flies, and the ARPO is certainly one worth adding to your fly box.

I hope you enjoy watching the two patterns being tied and perhaps pick up a little idea or technique along the way.

As always, thank you for watching and for your continued support. It's very much appreciated.

All the very best,
