I had been trying to get the 718 drift car out to the mountain for 3 years... and we finally did it. IT SHREDS.
We're still sorting out a few things with the handbrake and power delivery after dropping the handbrake, but it's already a blast to drive and makes some killer lead runs.
On top of that, we brought out the E46 Compact we had just finished building. Three weeks before this event it was a bare shell. Engine swap, suspension, cage, paint—the whole deal. Then we loaded it in the trailer and headed straight to Drift Appalachia.
Probably not the recommended break-in procedure.
Drift Appalachia West Virginia is one of my favorite events anywhere. The road is long, technical, and rewards good driving. More importantly, everyone shows up wanting to drive with each other and put on a show. The lead runs were unreal all weekend.
Day one was mostly wet, day two was dry, so we got the best of both worlds.
The biggest win of the weekend was the Compact. Brand-new build, first event, and it never missed a beat. No thrashing, no major issues. Just fuel, tires, and driving. I couldn't have asked for a better first outing.
To cap it all off, they lit up the mountain Saturday night and turned it into our own midnight touge. Door-to-door runs, tons of seat time, and good people having fun.
By the end of the weekend we'd burned through nearly 20 Accelera 651 Sports on the Compact and another 6 Accelera 651 XTRAs on the 718.
That's a lot of driving.
Hope you guys enjoy the video.
