The Vera Rubin Observatory Has Just Opened Its Eyes
After a decade of construction high in the Andes of northern Chile, it has officially begun capturing images of the cosmos, and it's about to transform our understanding of the universe. With the largest digital camera ever built, it will scan the entire visible sky every few nights for the next 10 years.
It's expected to find millions of asteroids, including most that could one day threaten Earth.
