This is not a discussion about AI but it includes AI because of how it has accelerated this thought within many of us, those who have been in the industry for years, emerging artists, and young new students of the arts.
I am not claiming to be an expert on how we think and feel, this is merely an observation as an art director and an instructor of the arts and the trends I have seen lately. My hope is that this discussion helps you become more aware of what may be happening—not only in your own creative life, but perhaps in the lives of artists and creatives around you as well.
Drawing from my experience as both an artist and an educator, I simply want to help pull back the veil that often obscures certain truths from our view. My hope is that together we can recognize some of the mental barriers that are difficult to see when we're standing too close to them.
I have witnessed these struggles firsthand with my students, but more importantly, I have experienced them myself. I have fallen into this pit many times throughout my career, long before AI ever entered the conversation.
The demonstration that accompanies the video is done in Gouache on Bristol printer paper I purchased at Office Depot. It has been drastically sped up to match the length of the audio. The original took around 1 hour 20 minutes to complete and is just a sketch and not intending to be an instructional video.
All the usual steps I teach that make it easier to learn a process are thrown out for the sake of impromptu painting and just feeling the way through it.

You should join the Discord channel where there is a great growing community of artists sharing their work and helping each other learn how to make art. They are now meeting once a week doing a live drawing class from images, timing them and having a conversation about what they are doing together.
