The Last Day of April on the River Doon | Small Wets, Nymphs & a Trout at the End
Join me on the River Doon for the final day of April as I work my way through a selection of pools with small wet flies and nymphs in search of wild brown trout.
It was one of those typical spring days where the river looked full of promise, but the trout were reluctant to show themselves. A brief grannom hatch sparked a little life on the water, although it lasted no more than ten minutes before conditions settled back into a quiet rhythm.
Despite the slow fishing, there is always something special about spending time on a river at this time of year, watching the changing conditions and trying to unlock the mood of the trout. Persistence eventually paid off with a welcome fish towards the end of the session.
Unfortunately, the camera stopped recording just before I landed the final trout, resulting in a rather sudden ending to the video. Thankfully, there is still over 40 minutes of footage from a peaceful day spent exploring one of Scotland's most beautiful rivers.
