Description
The Bergamasco Sheepdog traces its roots from ancient Persia to the Italian Alps, where its signature coat of felt-like mats served as both insulation against bitter cold and armor against predators. Those distinctive locks are made of three types of hair that must be ripped into mats around one year of age — a process that takes a few hours — but once it’s done, it’s done. No shedding, no brushing, and only 2–3 baths a year. The mats grow for the dog’s entire life, reaching the ground by about age six. Beneath that unforgettable coat is a courageous, intelligent, and sociable companion who thrives on solving problems alongside their people.
