The Cure is a great one for working on your strumming hand. The chords themselves are friendly and the strumming pattern stays the same the whole way through, so once you've got it down you can pretty much run with it. I'll show you the chords and the pattern, played just like Olivia's guitarist does it in the live videos.
The tricky part isn't the chords, it's the speed of the downstrokes and getting the accents right. The whole song lives on a steady run of downstrokes, and keeping them quick and even while accenting the right beats is what gives it that drive and feel. We'll start slow so you can lock in the motion, then build up the speed until it flows. Get that strumming hand relaxed and you've cracked it.
Cool bit of trivia: Olivia walked into the studio with the verse already written, and producer Dan Nigro loved the first take so much he kept the original demo vocal and guitar on the final record. She's also a massive Cure (the band) fan, and brought Robert Smith out at Glastonbury in 2025 to play Friday I'm in Love and Just Like Heaven together. Good company for a song with this title.
