Susie was a teenager when she started smoking. In her words “it was the done thing” but, thanks to the new Tobacco and Vapes Act, future generations will never legally be sold tobacco in the UK.
“I started to smoke as a teenager before I knew the dangers and, when I did know the dangers, it was too late – I was hooked and I smoked for 30 years.”
Then, in 2017, she was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer. She endured many hospital trips, rounds of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, as well as an operation to remove part of her lung, but is now thankfully doing well.
“I wish that we'd had this legislation when I was a teenager,” says Susie. “I think it’s so important children like my grandsons won’t ever legally be sold tobacco products to help protect them from getting hooked like I did.”
