Cait started smoking when she was a teenager, like most of her friends.

Years later, she was diagnosed with advanced stage 3 lung cancer. She’s been through radiotherapy, chemotherapy and immunotherapy, and is sharing her story in the hope that fewer young people ever have to face the same things in future.

That’s why the new Tobacco & Vapes Act means so much to her. This world-leading legislation will help create the first ever smokefree generation, ensuring children born on or after 1 January 2009 will never legally be sold tobacco in the UK.

“Back then, everybody smoked,” Cait says. “We didn’t know what we know now. If this law had come in when I was my daughter Isabella’s age, I don’t think I would have smoked.”

Isabella feels hopeful too. “I think it's going to really make a huge beneficial impact on people my age,” she says.

Their story shows what this historic moment is all about. Parents wanting better for their children and a huge step towards protecting future generations from the harms of smoking.
