"Smoking did its best to take my life, but now I’ve taken my life back,” says Sue. By the time she quit smoking, Sue believes she’d spent more than £100,000 on cigarettes.

Her first cancer diagnosis came in 2012. “My daughters thought they were going to lose their Mam,” she says. But it wasn’t until her third cancer diagnosis in 2017, just before starting radiotherapy, that she finally managed to stop smoking for good.

Now, with new legislation having been introduced to help create the first ever smokefree generation in the UK, Sue feels hopeful. The Tobacco and Vapes Act, which she campaigned for, aims to protect young people from the harms of smoking.

“I back the campaign for a smokefree UK so no one has to be told they have a cancer caused by smoking like me."

Sue is proud of how far she’s come. And she’s using her voice to help protect her grandchildren and future generations.
