A little about "Quinn Redshift": I've been working on this project for close to five years; I'm a lone animator doing everything myself. Perhaps Pixar could bash this out in a few months, but I'm working on home on obsolete computers and software that's nine years out-of-date because it's all I can afford.
I was raised when the Star Wars saga was new, and I've always wanted to do something similar...and by "do something similar", I mean actually have a space adventure...but since that seems unlikely, my next-best-thing was to make one of my own. Thus, "Quinn Redshift" was born.
I knew I wanted to make something in the big-chinned-hero vein in order to keep with the pulp style; John Carter, Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers, Spaceman Spiff, and Buzz Lightyear were all influences and inspiration.
"Quinn Redshift" is also a love-letter to my childhood. As a kid, Hollywood's assumption that cartoons are solely for children (just as Japan about that!) and thus must contain slapstick humor, musical numbers, and a life lesson about believing in yourself...and I hated it. It felt very condescending; I wanted something I could really sink my my teeth into!
And thus I wrote a script that I felt was ageless, could be enjoyed by anybody and not just kids...and as a kid, I would have loved "Quinn Redshift". I love it as an adult, too, and wish more cartoons were made with that goal in mind.
I hope this trailer leaves people wanting to see more...
