NAM Is Coming to Fractal… Everything We Know So Far!

ADDICTED TO GEAR Video 1 months ago

Description

Fractal Audio just dropped a very interesting teaser showing NAM — Neural Amp Modeler — running directly on an Axe-Fx III, and the guitar modeling community is already buzzing.

In this video, I break down what Cliff Chase has actually confirmed, what is still speculation, and why native NAM support inside the Fractal ecosystem could be a much bigger deal than it first appears.

We’ll look at how NAM could work inside the Axe-Fx III, how models may be loaded through Axe-Edit, why the CPU situation is more complicated than it looks, and why NAM doesn’t necessarily replace Fractal’s existing amp modeling technology.

The really interesting part is what this could mean going forward: Fractal users may be able to combine open-source NAM captures with Fractal amps, cabs, effects and routing — potentially giving players access to rare amps, pedals and personal captures without being locked into a proprietary capture ecosystem.

We also look at the unanswered questions, including FM9 and FM3 support, storage limits, DSP usage, release timing and whether future Fractal hardware could eventually perform NAM training directly onboard.

Is this just another feature, or could NAM eventually become the guitar world’s equivalent of a universal IR format?

Let me know what you think in the comments.
