Description
Arianna Powell is a live and session guitarist based in Los Angeles. She studied jazz guitar at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and then moved to LA without knowing anyone there. She has since toured with Halsey, Nick Jonas and the Black Eyed Peas and played acoustic guitar on Chappell Roan's "Coffee". In 2021 she played Olivia Rodrigo's "Saturday Night Live" debut, the singer's first-ever performance with a band, and has toured the world with her since.
In this video, Arianna shares her musical journey, from learning Sheryl Crow songs to Metallica solos. She discusses her influences, including Brian May, David Gilmour, and Bill Frisell, and how folk, Americana, jazz, and R&B shape her playing. Arianna also explains her distinctive approach to chords and melodic rhythm parts, and why developing a unique musical voice is central to her work.
