I had the idea for this AMV on New Years Eve and started editing right after. I had been wanting to edit Cagliostro for a couple of weeks and was on the look for a good song and concept. Then i came back to this classic Song of my youth and everything just clicked.
The Castle of Cagliostro is the second movie to Lupin III. It was directed by Ghibli Mastermind Hayao Miyazaki and was his directorial debut. It's a beloved movie and while serious at times, shows Lupin from a rather lighthearted and fun side. It's not my preferred interpretation of the character, but on its own it's a damn fine movie and worth your time.
In the 80s there was a rather unique german localization of this movie called "Hardyman räumt auf" (Hardyman cleans up). I never watched it in full but the clips i've seen are hilarious with tone and characters very off. In the 2000s there was a new localization and by now, most Germans won't know this version. And neither should they. But i can't get over the fact that at one point german Lupin was called Hardyman. Also this movie and song go hard. So much for the name.
There's a pretty good looking 4K version of this movie now that i converted from HDR to SDR. But the 4K of this AMV is native (or what YouTube compression left of it). I've already finished work on another AMV and yet another one is close to completion. Both will be released in the coming months. I hope to have them out before my AMV to Immortal Bloodlines which should come in April at the earliest, depending on how well i find into the movie.
